The photo shows a round Carnelian cabochon on a pendant.

Carnelian is the yellow to red to reddish-brown variety of Chalcedony, which is a cryptocrystalline variety of Quartz, alongside Agates. There are many varieties and colours of Agate. Some of the more common of varieties are Chrysoprase (green Agate), Sard (yellow to brown Agate), Sardonyx (banded Sard), Onyx (black and white Agate), and Carnelian (a yellow to orange-red Agate). Due to Agates highly porous nature, it is often commercially dyed, this is usually obvious due to the over brightness of colour.
Agate forms hydrothermally, often in spaces formed by gaseous bubbles in cooling lava in volcanic rock, where it grows from the outside edge of the cavity towards the centre. Usually it has lovely concentric or irregular bands created by other substances being deposited on each layer and these can include other members of the large extended Quartz family. If the Agate reaches the centre of the cavity and closes up, it is often referred to as an Agate Almond, if it does not and leaves a space in the centre it is referred to as an Agate Geode.

Photo shows a Celestite cluster.

Celestite has the chemistry SrSO4, Strontium Sulphate, and belongs to the mineral class Sulphates and the Barite group. Celestite has the same structure as Barite and forms very similar crystals. A flame test will identify Celestite by turning the flame red due to the Strontium, whereas Barite turns the flame a pale green due to the Barium content. Celestite, or rather Strontium, is used in the production of fireworks due of its ability to burn with a bright red flame. In addition, Strontium is used in the manufacture of glass for television sets, as it is non-toxic and shields the viewer from X-rays generated by the high voltage of cathode ray tubes. However because Strontium is much less toxic than either Lead or Barium, it is now used routinely for cathode ray tubes.
Celestite is named after celestial, an allusion to the pretty, sky-blue colour of its crystals, or from the Greek caelestis, another reference to its pale blue colour. However, the crystals may be colourless, yellow or with tints of red, green and brown. Their habit includes bladed with two large pinacoid faces top and bottom and small prism faces, forming a jutting angle on every side. There are many variations of these faces but the flattened blades and tabular crystals are the most common, however crystals may be nodular, fibrous or granular also. Celestite crystals are transparent to translucent, the lustre is vitreous and the crystal system is orthorhombic. The well-formed crystals, good lustre and attractive blue colour make Celestite a must for the collector.
Often Celestite is associated with Calcite, Gypsum, Strontianite, Sulphur and Fluorite. Notable locations include Michigan and New York USA, Madagascar and Sicily.

Chalcedony Mineralogy Chalcedony has the chemical formula SiO2.. It is a fine-grained (cryptocrystalline) variety of the silica mineral Quartz and forms rounded crusts, rinds, or stalactites in volcanic and sedimentary rocks.
If it has bands of differing shades or colours it is known as Agate. Depending on further attributes such as colour and inclusions it is sub divided further. Onyx is a black and white striped form of Chalcedony and Bloodstone (Heliotrpe) is a green form with splashes of red Jasper. The translucent orange to red variety is known as Carnelian and is coloured by Hematite, whereas nickel silicate inclusions give rise to an apple green variety called Chrysoprase.
Chalcedony crystals are transparent to sub-translucent and the lustre is glassy. The crystal system is tetrahedral and hardness is 7.0. It appears in a great variety of colours including blue, light tan, grey, yellow or brown.

Chalcopyrite (or Copper Pyrite), looks like, and is easily confused with Pyrite (FeS2).
Chalcopyrite crystals are a brassy yellow and may tarnish to iridescent blues, greens, yellows and purples. The lustre is metallic and crystals are opaque. Crystal habits are predominantly disphenoid, which resembles a tetrahedron and are sometimes twinned. Most crystal faces have striations. In addition, Chalcopyrite occurs as massive and botryoidal occasionally. Cleavage is rather poor in one direction, fracture is conchoidal and brittle and hardness is 3.5 - 4. The crystal system is tetragonal.
Minerals associated with Chalcopyrite include Quartz, Fluorite, Barite, Dolomite, Calcite, Pentlandite, Pyrite and other sulphides. Notable locations include Chile, Peru, Mexico, Europe, South Africa, several USA sites and many others around the world.

Chrysocolla has the chemistry CuSiO3 - nH2 O Hydrated Copper Silicate and is a member of the mineral group Silicate, subclass Phyllosilicates. It may appropriately be referred to as a mineraloid, rather than a true mineral. This is because most of the time it is amorphous (does not have a coherent crystalline structure), however at higher temperatures it does demonstrate a distorted crystal structure.
Chrysocolla is naturally soft and fragile, but when it is associated with Quartz and Agatised, it gains polish and durability. Drusy Chrysocolla consists of Agatised Chrysocolla with a crust of tiny Quartz crystals in small cavities. Other habits include the common massive forms as crusts, stalactites and botryoidal and as an inclusion in Quartz.
Mineral associations include Limonite, Azurite, Malachite and Cuprite. Chrysocolla may be green, blue-green, blue, black-blue or brown.
